The wedding proposal is an art. Not everybody can nail it. Only a few people (the lucky ones) are able to make it picture perfect. In all fairness, the day of the proposal happens to be one of the most memorable days in the life of a couple. You can have people playing violins in the background. Going down on one knee is definitely an experience like no other. It’s a journey to Lala Land.
Now, proposing isn’t the easiest of tasks. There are those who drop the idea just because they fear being rejected. And then, there are those who go down on both knees while holding a rose in one hand and a diamond ring in the other.
If you’re planning to tell your beloved that she’s the one for you’, then you need to take the following things into consideration.
Do discuss it beforehand
Proposals need to be discussed beforehand. It cannot happen suddenly ( out of anywhere). A sudden proposal might take your beloved by surprise. You might catch her off-guard in some cases. It is always advisable to discuss something of this sort well in advance. In this way, the element of surprise would get killed. Ah, don’t think about the movie stuff. Be a bit practical in your approach.
Keep it straightforward
Keep your proposal short, sweet, and crisp. Don’t keep mumbling. Just say what you want to say. Also, refrain yourself from making it dramatic. It’s not a film, right? It’s real life. Also, it is advisable not to overdo things. You can take your beloved on a romantic date to one of her favourite restaurants. You can also take her out on a movie date. A friend of mine took his fiance on a movie date. He took her out in order to watch Conjuring 2 (Yes, you read that right). Fortunately, her fiance didn’t get scared and the marriage got materialized without much trouble.
Don’t propose empty-handed
Point to be noted. Never propose your beloved empty handed. That’s the biggest blunder you’ll ever commit in your life. Having a couple of matching wedding rings at your disposal will surely help your cause. You can buy a ring beforehand. Also, pairing the ring with a small gift ( a box of chocolates can do wonders).
Capture the moment
Okay, this one is quite important. The day of the proposal is your ‘Date with Destiny’. Make sure you capture the moment. If you’re planning to propose in front of a lot of people, then you can ask anybody to capture the moment for you. You can always look back at the pleasant memories. These are bound to make you smile. Your kids can also be shown in these photographs or videos.
Highlight the ‘element of love’
Marriage proposals need to have endless traces of love. You got to be practical, alright, but you also need to bring out your softer side. You can’t keep talking about practical stuff. Make her realize that she’s special. Let her know that despite all her limitations, she is one of you.
Don’t get nervous
Well, it certainly would be no overstatement to say that proposing someone can make us nervous. It happens to the best of us. A feeling of shyness and vulnerability is bound to engulf you the moment you propose someone. If you wish to practice the art of proposing, then you can begin by practicing in front of the mirror.
To draw the curtains
So, that’s pretty much it. Proposing someone is an unbelievably exciting thing. Don’t overthink, just go ahead and tell your beloved that she’s the one.
